Notes from the class

What we have been learning…

What a busy start it’s been to Year 6! Everyone enjoyed the residential trip to Norfolk – we explored unfamiliar habitats, paddled in the sea, squelched through mud, hunted for precious stones, spotted seals and disco-danced, amongst other things! On our return, we completed work in English and Geography that linked well to our trip. More recently, we have been completing work based on the book ‘Skellig’ by David Almond.
The children have written some amazing setting descriptions and have thought very carefully about the vocabulary they have selected and have included a range of different devices that writers use to engage their readers, such as pathetic fallacy, oxymorons and symbolism. There is a big focus on fractions in Year 6, so in maths we have revised how to add and subtract fractions by finding a common denominator and we’ll move onto multiplying and dividing fractions, finding a fraction of an amount and then finding the whole. Next up is decimals and percentages!
