We began learning about the Vikings. The children were enthralled when they found out that Vikings never did wear horned helmets and that the term ‘Viking’ actually means ‘to go Viking’ – I’m sure the children can fill you in on what that means!
In English, the children have written detailed and accomplished dual narratives based on the Viking attack on Lindisfarne in 793AD. We studied the lives of monks and Norsemen at that time to give our narratives an accurate historical tone.
The children have really enjoyed learning about Japanese art, especially the work of Hokusai. They designed and made their own printing blocks, created stunning Notan designs, tried some origami for homework, dabbled in the art of calligraphy and had great fin creating their own Manga characters.
This half term, we will be learning about earthquakes, electricity and making torches in D&T amongst lots of other exciting things.
